Each ferromagnetic material (such as steel, iron, cast iron, nickel, cobalt

and other magnetic compounds) and produced by the current flowing magnetic fields generate their own energy fields that can be detected with magnetic locators. Depending on the model, these devices show the presence and intensity of the respective magnetic field by sound and visual signals.

In the services we SCHONSTEDT devices are located in the shaft two coaxially aligned sensors, which are adjusted so that they compensate for the naturally occurring magnetic field of the earth. In the vicinity of a magnetic object, the effect on the lower sensor is stronger. The device reacts - depending on the intensity of the registered signal - with an increasing frequency in the acoustic (optionally also optical) signal.

Basically:

The larger or bulky object, the greater the achievable detection depth
A vertically integrated object (eg a Marking pipe) allows for a greater depth than a horizontally lying locating object of the same size
The fewer disturbing obstructions (such as Monier iron, fences, etc.) are in the vicinity of the search object, the greater the precision
The closer the object is below the surface, the easier it can be locate precisely

Achievable search depths / precision
The achievable accuracy and the maximum search depth depends primarily on the used devices, from the interference in the vicinity of the object, and not least from the experience of the user.
