SECO Aluminium Prisms Pole

Clamping system with telescopic rods
For detection of height coordinates an absolutely secure clamping of the telescoping tubes is essential.
Absolutely reliable, in our view, are only screw clamps to tension the telescopic extension on the full extent of the telescope tube. Alternatively or in combination with screw clamp systems comes systems with fixed stop bolt in question.
All other systems are less reliable in our experience, and/or wear-intensive.

Which manufacturer?
Quality conscious clients, we recommend PREMIUM SECO prism poles. On the quality of
SECO trust such as LEICA TRIMBLE and offering these rods for years. The bars are offered by us in detail often a little better, because we have these specially adapted to the needs of the European market.
Please note that the quality of the "BASIC PLUS" rods from SECO is not comparable with the PREMIUM rods.
Price-conscious customers, we recommend our GS SURVEY plus bars, which offer a very satisfactory quality at unbelievably low prices.

Material: aluminum/carbon fiber/fiberglass?
A prism pole made of carbon fiber (CFRP) is significantly lighter, but also much more expensive than a comparably robust aluminum bar.
For all GPS applications and for use with one-man total stations, which will be at the bar next to prism or antenna accessories needed, in our view you should  use a carbon fiber rod, composit rod (aluminum/CFRP) or glass fiber rods (FRP) . GFK rods are a good compromise between low weight and favorable price and are not electrically conductive.
In applications where only prism or antenna is required at the bar, an aluminum rod is economically viable option.

What to look for when buying prism poles /advantages of SECO and GS SURVEY plus prism poles:

1) Universal Adapter System
At SECO and GS SURVEY plus prism poles, adaptation to the prism system used on inexpensive adapters that are screwed onto the rod. With a change of the prism system you are flexible for years and do not need to buy new rods.

2) High precision of the telescopic tubes/division
The telescopic tubes must be completely straight, so even with a large extension lengths yet achieve acceptable accuracy. The division should not only be printed but andonized in order to achieve high durability.

3) clamping elements of screw clamp
The clamps should be machined from heavy gauge aluminum, extruded elements with thin walls do not last long. The connecting elements should have metric threads.

4) clamping screws
Only with large, rubberized clamp screws you achieve with a little effort an adequate clamping force.
TIP: Thread of clamping screws fat 2 x per year.

5) bubble / housing bubble
The circular levels should be read parallax and provide sufficient accuracy. The more sensitive the bubble, the more time-consuming is the vertical setting. We recommend a 20 'dragonflie, greater sensitivities are available on request. The dragonfly itself should be absolutely adjustable and mounted on a steel ball as possible. The housing bubble is ideally made of metal. Plastic tends to break in a fall in the winter and the housing - which, as a result - even the dragonfly.

6) Handle made of soft plastic
Aluminum prism poles can be
touch at low temperatures only with gloves, because the coldness of staff transfers quickly to the hands. Most SECO and all GS SURVEY plus prism poles are therefore covered with a soft hand and sympathetic coating of durable special plastic.

7) coating of the downtube
The toughest coating form a prism pole is made of aluminum anodizing. If the rods should be visible (warning properties), only a wet or powder coating comes into question. SECO prism poles have an impact-resistant red and white powder coating and see even after prolonged use of even good.

8) flushing hole in the toe area
SECO and GS SURVEY plus prism poles have a hole in the foot and can thus easily rinse.

9) Interchangeable, not sharp tip
Tips of prism rods are wearing parts. Therefore they should be easy to replace. Instead of living with the wrong height, you can renew at SECO and GS SURVEY bars for € 3.20 plus the tip.
